David Hutchings Obituary

David J. Hutchings, 76, of Montezuma, NY, passed away early Sunday morning (December 10, 2023) surrounded by his loving family.  David was born on October 3, 1947, in Rochester NY and was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Aubin) Hutchings.   He graduated from Port Byron Central School in 1967 and joined the United States Air Force upon graduation. David was a proud member of the Air Force/Air National Guard for nearly 22 years.  As an active member of the U.S Air Force, David served 2 tours during the Vietnam War and stayed active for over 8 years.  During his time in the Air National Guard (174th Tactical Fighter Wing), David served his country during the Gulf War and stayed an active member through the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.   Throughout his life David was involved in many different parts of his community.  He worked for 33 years at NUCOR/Auburn Steel as a mechanic, retiring in 2002 to travel and enjoy his golden years.  He became the Commander of the VFW Post in Montezuma, holding the post for 7 years and helping bring the Post into the 2000’s.  He served as President of the Cayuga County Little League Association, and he was also on the Port Byron Central School committee that ushered in the new High School.  David is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kathleen E. Hutchings (Strassle), and his four sons, John Hutchings (Kimberly), Christopher Hutchings (Karin), Chad Hutchings, and Matt Hutchings (Stephanie Trickler). He had seven grandchildren Mackenzie (Justin) Dangler, Micalah, Alex, Grace, and Grant Hutchings. Madison and Mia Hutchings. Four step grandchildren, Julia and Hanna Trickler and Lacey and Haley Harkness.  Five great-grandchildren, Hunter, Griffin, Theo, Jax and Anthony.  David is also survived by his sister, Margaret Springs, along with several nieces and nephews. Calling hours to honor the life of David will be held at Audioun Funeral Home in Port Byron, NY on Thursday, December 14th from 4 - 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Weedsport, NY on Friday, December 15th, at 11:00am.  Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Auburn, NY.
